Chan Il Chung
Chan Il Chung was born in 1939 in Inch'ŏn, Korea. He studied Chemical Engineering at Seoul National University. After graduating, he worked for Lucky Chemical Industries in Pusan, South Korea for two years before immigrating to the United States in 1963 to work for Celanese Plastics Co. He received his Masters degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and his PhD from Rutgers University. After working at Esso Research and Engineering Company, he then left industry to become a professor of engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he worked for thirty years. During much of that time, he also worked for Samsung Corporation in South Korea as a consultant. He has served as a president of Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association. He now lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife. He has three children and seven grandchildren.
